Connections and Following
Connections and Following Guide
The Connections page shows a member’s followers and the people they are following. It is designed to work with public profile areas so visitors can move from a profile to that member’s connection lists.
Create the Connections Page
- Go to Pages → Add New.
- Create a page for member connections.
- In the page settings, assign the Connections template.
- Publish the page.
The Connections template displays a user’s profile header, profile navigation, follower count, following count, and two tabs:
- Followers
- Following
How the Connections Page Works
The page can show connections for the logged-in user or for another member.
When a specific user is selected, the page displays that user’s followers and following lists. Each list uses member cards with avatar, bio, and a follow button where available.
The page includes empty states when a member has no followers or is not following anyone yet.
Following and Unfollowing Members
Logged-in users can follow or unfollow other members from supported profile and member card areas.
A user will not see a follow button for their own account. Logged-out visitors do not see the follow action.
When a user follows another member, that relationship is reflected in the following member’s Following tab and the followed member’s Followers tab.
Where Follow Buttons Can Appear
Follow buttons can appear in supported user/member cards and profile-related areas. They are intended to help members connect with other members from community pages such as profiles, directories, and connection lists.
The exact locations depend on the page/template being viewed and whether the current visitor is logged in.
Test the Connections Page
- Log in as one test user.
- Visit another member’s profile or member card.
- Click Follow.
- Open the Connections page for that member.
- Confirm the follower count updates.
- Switch between Followers and Following.
- Click Unfollow and confirm the relationship is removed.
Troubleshooting
I do not see a follow button
Confirm you are logged in. Follow buttons are not shown to logged-out visitors and are not shown on your own account.
The Connections page shows “User Not Found”
Confirm the user being viewed still exists. If the link includes a user ID, make sure that user account has not been deleted.
Followers or following lists are empty
This usually means the member has not followed anyone yet or no one has followed that member yet. Test with two separate accounts to confirm the feature is working.
The Connections page does not use the right layout
Edit the page and confirm the Connections template is assigned. Then clear any site/page cache and reload the page.
