Direct Messages Guide

Applies to: Current VideoHub360 theme package

Enable Direct Messaging

Go to VH360 Theme → Messages and enable direct messaging. Configure:

• whether users may start conversations
• whether mutual following is required
• message character limit
• retention period
• related notification behavior

User Access

Users open Messages in the frontend Dashboard or use a profile message action where the current profile layout provides one. A user can be prevented from starting a conversation by role/access rules, mutual-follow requirements, the recipient’s privacy preference, or the feature being disabled.

Mutual Following

When mutual following is required, both users must follow each other before a new direct-message conversation can begin. Existing stored conversations should still be tested after changing this setting.

Retention

The retention period controls how long message data is kept according to the configured cleanup behavior. Choose a period that matches the site’s privacy and support policy.

Notifications

Direct-message notifications depend on in-site notification settings and the recipient’s preferences. Push notification delivery also requires the PWA/App push system and a subscribed device.

Test Messaging

Use two normal accounts. Test starting a conversation, replying, unread state, character limit, mutual-follow enforcement, profile privacy, notifications, and mobile dashboard behavior.
